MKT #11 Bodycontrol – Drag Workshop

Who is allowed to be strong, dangerous and ready to fight, when and how? Who is allowed to cry, be soft and empathetic? And what does this have to do with gender?

Let’s challenge these expectations and stereotypes together in our drag workshop. Buba Sababa, Ruco laPesto and BB from Haus König will guide you on a journey into the world of drag. After a brief conversation about gender, we will introduce you to how make-up and performance can become tools of euphoria and resistance. If you want to experiment with masculine, nonbinary or creature drag, this workshop is for you! No prior experience is necessary. The workshop is open to all genders, ages 18 and up.

This workshop is part of MKT #11. In this two-part edition of our series Macht kritisch(es) Theater, we address militarism and gender. In a panel discussion on 19.6. at 19:30, we will examine “soldierly men” and “male fantasies” against the backdrop of reintroducing conscription to mandatory military service in Germany and the transmisogynist, so-called “military gender” clause (§ 9 of the Selbstbestimmungsgesetz). How can we counter these developments through theatre? With this workshop, we invite you to engage with gender identity on a practical level and discover new forms of artistic expression that challenge societal norms.

Please purchase your participation ticket using an email address where we can reach you. To ensure a smooth start on the day of the workshop, please prepare and bring the following:

• Comfortable clothing
• Water
• A mood board with your drag character ideas (please send this to us before the workshop)

You’ll receive more details by email once you’ve signed up. We will provide make-up, but we appreciate a voluntary donation of 10–30 € to help cover materials, transport and other costs. However, participation should never depend on money – please join us regardless of your budget! After the workshop, you’re welcome to enjoy a cold drink in our lovely courtyard.

The theatre hall is wheelchair accessible via ramps, and there is a wheelchair-accessible restroom 20 metres away.
