Dissolution
The performance „Dissolution“ is a search for sensitivity and a process of mourning. The performers – Jeanna Kolesova, Kira Shmyr, Miriam Cochanski, Victoria Sarangova and Ziliä Qansurá – explore how sensitivity to differences has been repeatedly erased and how this sensitivity can reemerge.
They invite each other, along with the audience, into spaces where something or someone was absent and left unmourned. Queer, trans, Indigenous, non-Russian, disabled and nonhuman perspectives—often separated by Russian rules—are reinterpreted through relationships of interdependence.
The colonial notion of a single form of justice with a singular collective memory begins to dissolve. Instead of dreaming up a general future for a „free Russia“, the artists mourn the steppes, mountains, swamps, stones, animals, lost languages, spirits, and people. Grief permeates everything. All is in a state of dissolution. The artists themselves carry this dissolution within them. They express this feeling through various means – texts, visuals, sounds, felting, embroidery, magic instructions and parallel play in a nonlinear way.
Can they support each other’s grief without denial even as fatigue, anger, and loss shape both their bodies and the landscapes around them? More information in the accessibility-brochure and road_description.
Image description: The photo shows the five performers of Dissolution: Miriam Cochanski, Kira Shmyr, Jeanna Kolesova, Ziliä Qansurá and Victoria Sarangova. In the foreground, in the center, is Miriam. She is a white woman sitting in her wheelchair. Miriam has long, brown, curly hair, wears a black blouse, a short black skirt, black leggings, and grey shoes. She is smiling directly at the camera while holding a silver slinky.
On the right is Kira, sitting on a grey beanbag. Kira is a white non-binary person with light brown hair styled in a bob. They are wearing grey trousers, a grey mesh long-sleeved t-shirt, a black sleeveless t-shirt, and black boots. Kira holds a grey stone in their hands, covering part of their face, with only their eyes visible.
Jeanna stands behind Kira. They are a white non-binary person with short brown hair, wearing black trousers, an orange jumper, and a beige apron. Jeanna is throwing up a soft, grey felt wool stone, looking at it with concentration as it flies over Kira’s head.
Behind Miriam, on the left, is Ziliä, a BIPOC woman with long black hair braided into two pigtails. She is wearing a black dress and black boots, with an orange scarf hanging from her waist. She is jumping and laughing.
Victoria is standing on a ladder behind everyone. She is a mixed Asian (Oirat)/Armenian woman with black hair in a ponytail, wearing black trousers and a black blouse with wide sleeves. She is stretching a thin white rope in opposite directions with a thoughtful expression on Victoria’s face.
